Our solid wood strut system, which runs the length of the bed, is the platform for the mattress. (see picture above on the right) Look at your standard box spring, most of them do not have springs inside, they are a wood strut based box that has slats that run the length of the bed.
Our wall beds are built to accommodate industry standard size mattresses. The table below gives the mattress dimensions for standard innerspring mattresses. Any uncommon length of mattress will require a modification to our wall bed construction. We can accommodate most uncommon size mattresses for an additional charge – ask us for details.

If your mattress exceeds 12 inches in total thickness, we can build your wall bed with a deeper cabinet for an additional charge. Contact us to discuss your specific mattress requirements.
When you close your wall bed, you can leave your sheets, blankets and comforter in place. Just be sure to tuck in each of these in order to hide any evidence of such when the bed is completely closed. Most of our customers that purchase Vertical beds will hang a picture on the wall inside the bed, which makes the bed more decorative when the bed is down. When using a 12 inch mattress (maximum size) you will have 2 inches of space left inside when the bed is closed. The straps used to hold the mattress down will keep the mattress away from your hanging picture when closed.
Our wall beds can accommodate Tempur-Pedic and Latex mattresses. These mattresses tend to be a bit heavier than standard innerspring mattresses. This is no problem for our piston system! Please be aware, however, that the bed will be a little heavier to operate with one of these types of mattresses.
You can NOT use a blow up air mattress with our wall beds. They do not offer enough weight to work with our piston system.
We do not offer king size wall beds at this time. Because the faces of our beds come as one big piece, we have found that most spaces are unable to accommodate such a large piece. Remember, the face of our bed is roughly the size of a corresponding box spring. Just think how large a king size box spring would be! Most king size mattresses rest on two twin size box springs for just this reason.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
It is not economical for us to ship you a mattress due to added expense from the shipping company. Mattresses carry a different classification than our beds which results in a much higher shipping rate. If you need a mattress, it is easier to visit one of the many mattress stores in your area, and find a mattress to your comfort level.
