Our Finishing Process (top of page)

At The Bedder Way Co., not only do we take great pride in providing a space saving solution, but also a beautiful, REAL WOOD fine furniture addition to your home as well. We hand select only the finest Oak and Maple wood for the construction of our wall beds. We then utilize a 10-step finishing process to ensure your wall bed has an attractive and durable finish.

  1. After every construction detail is double checked, all surfaces are sanded to achieve a fine furniture feel.
  2. After the surfaces are sanded, all remaining dust is removed and the surfaces are wiped clean.
  3. A deep penetrating stain is hand applied to reveal the natural beauty of the wood. All stained surfaces are evenly hand rubbed to eliminate any excess stain.
  4. To achieve the classic look of hand stained furniture, each piece is slowly air-dried.
  5. A specially formulated, pre-catalyzed sanding sealer is pressure applied, penetrating all wood surfaces for uniform protection.
  6. All surfaces are lightly hand sanded, wiped down, and prepared for a second sealer coat.
  7. A second coat of the same specially formulated, pre-catalyzed sanding sealer is pressure applied.
  8. All surfaces are hand sanded for a final time to ensure a consistently smooth surface ready to accept the final finish coat. All surfaces are wiped down to remove all remaining dust.
  9. A premium quality, pre-catalyzed, hi-solids lacquer topcoat is pressure applied to attain a handsome, durable satin finish.
  10. Before every wall bed is packaged and made ready for shipping, they are inspected and polished, assuring each wall bed meets our high quality standards.

Our Finishes meet environmental standards as identified by the EPA. It also meets United States VOC regulations and is FREE of all Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs Free).

WOOD SPECIES     (top of page)

The Bedder Way Co. uses only the most environmentally conscious solid wood and furniture grade hardwood plywoods in the industry. Using GreenT (TM) Hardwood Plywoods from Timber Products Company provides our customers the beauty of real wood, combined with environmental friendliness. We believe the forest is the foundation of our homes, our cabinets, and most importantly our future. Our partners at Timber Products Company have led the way in protecting and managing this renewable resource. Their GreenT (TM) furniture grade hardwood plywood is manufactured from sustainable and managed forests and engineered to meet the strict emmissions requirement of the California Air Resource Board (CARB).

We offer two types of wood with our products, either Maple or Oak.

MAPLE

Maple is mainly used for furniture, paneling and millwork, kitchen cabinets, moldings, doors, musical instruments, and turnings. Maple is often used as a substitute for Cherry and Birch wood.
Maple has a white and light tannish brown heartwood, with darker colored pith flecks. The wood is generally straight-grained with a fine uniform smooth texture. The wood of Maple is heavy, hard and strong. It has very good bending properties, with good crushing strength and shock resistance.

RED OAK

The Latin name for oak, Quercus, means "a fine tree." The oaks have been key in America's industrial transformation: railroad ties, wheels, plows, looms, barrels and, of course, furniture and floors. The oak is the state tree of New Jersey. The sapwood of red oak is white to light brown and the heartwood is a pinkish reddish brown. The wood is similar in general appearance to white oak, but with a slightly less pronounced figure due to the smaller rays. The wood is mostly straight-grained, with a coarse texture. The wood is hard and heavy, with medium bending strength and stiffness and high crushing strength. It is very good for steam bending. Great wear-resistance.

As a member of the American Forests (R) Global ReLeaf campaign , The Bedder Way Co. donates funds each year that go towards planting new trees in areas of need.

In 2009 - 100 trees were planted as part of the California Wildfire ReLeaf project.

Lighting   (top of page)

Lighting is an option that we offer with our VERTICAL beds (not horizontal). The Lights consist of Two lights that are recessed in the header (inside top) of the wall bed. They are controlled by a touch pad that is located on the top of the headboard and has Three levels of brightness. The light cord is hidden by running down a grove in the back side of the side vertical and plugs into the closest outlet on your wall. This system comes with a tilt switch that will automatically cut power to the lights when the bed is closed. Lighting is an additional charge of $175.00. .

Glass Shelves

Add a distinctive look to your side cabinet by choosing glass shelves. Glass shelves are a beautiful way to display your treasures on your side cabinet especially when you have added lighting to your cabinets. Glass shelves are an optional add on: $75.00 per cabinet

Crown Molding

Our standard crown molding is included in the price of our wall beds and side cabinets. If you prefer a larger, more lavish crown molding, we offer an upgrade to an angled crown molding that adds Two inches to the height of the bed and Four inches to the overall width, and Four inches to the depth. The DEPTH of the wall bed automatically changes to become deeper, due to current or future addition of side cabinetry, which require the wall bed to be deeper in order for the larger crown molding on the side cabinetry to fit correctly with the bed. The angled crown molding is a very popular addition and takes the place of our standard crown molding. Upgrade Price $50.00-bed, $25.00 Each Cabinet
